In advance of National Consumer Protection Week, March 6-12, ABA today published a press release highlighting 12 ways that consumers can better secure their mobile devices.

“Banks use sophisticated safeguards to protect customer information, and it’s important for consumers to take certain safety measures too,” said SVP Doug Johnson. “Remember that your smart phone or tablet is like a little computer, and any device used to connect to the Internet needs to be protected.”

The association recommended that consumers take steps to physically secure their phones such as using passcode locks; logging out completely after completing a mobile banking session; installing mobile security software; and using caution when downloading new apps, browsing in public or using an open Wi-Fi network. ABA also reminded consumers to notify their banks if they change phone numbers, lose their phones or suspect that they may be victims of fraud.
