Heather Turnbow began her career in banking with a childhood fascination and has grown into a successful 20-year profession that ties into her lifelong goals of helping people.
In 2000, Heather joined Chelsea State Bank as a Teller in the Drive-Up Service Window at the Main Plaza office in Chelsea. Over the years, Heather progressed to Lobby Teller and into her current position as New Account Representative and Staff Trainer.
“I can recall as a little girl coming into Chelsea State Bank with my father and mother to make their business deposits,” said Heather. “I remember saying to them, ‘someday I want to work here.’ I think the Tellers counting money so fast really intrigued me. Little did I know I would end up fulfilling that childhood dream.”
Last year, Chelsea State Bank introduced Kasasa to their checking and savings product line. As the Staff Trainer, Heather has been instrumental in introducing the products and training all staff. There are three different reward checking accounts and a rewards savings account – so there is a lot to learn – and a lot to offer customers.
“I have really enjoyed the last 20 years,” commented Heather. “There have been some challenges, but I love a good challenge. Our latest addition of the Kasasa Checking and Savings Accounts has been a GREAT change. I enjoy being able to offer customers rewards for banking behaviors they are already doing. Everyone loves getting a reward but even better is knowing that even when you don’t qualify there are NO PENALTIES. With Kasasa products it is so much easier to explain the account to the customers and I believe it is easier for the customer to see you have their best interest in mind. Use your debit card? Use online banking? Get e-statements? Get rewarded for it. It truly is a win-win for our customers.”
Heather’s desire to help people carries into her community service as well. She has produced and Directed a Musical Benefit Dinner for the Chelsea Senior Center for two years, volunteers with Reformers Unanimous – a Faith Based Addictions program for over three years and has volunteered with Rock of Ages Prison Ministry and facilitated Women’s Bible Studies in the Jackson Jail.
Heather is always ready for the learning and training that has been involved in all her positions at Chelsea State Bank. From starting on the customer service end with basic teller functions to learning new accounts, to helping usher in a new account program and helping with the back-office side of creating documents for new accounts, it’s full of challenges and rewards.
A Chelsea native, Heather graduated from Chelsea High School and was awarded a small college scholarship for bowling through YCBA and a Scholarship from Briarwood Youth Pops Orchestra – vocalist.
