Meet Thomas DuMont, Senior Vice President, Commercial Lending Manager for Chelsea State Bank. Tom joined the Bank in April with 21+ years working for regional and national banks, including six years at JP Morgan Chase, and 12 years for Huntington Bank. His most recent position was Community President, Jackson County, at Huntington Bank.
“I am excited to join the Chelsea State Bank family,” said Tom. “We are community bankers and our goals are to understand our local community and establish long standing relationships with our customers and community stakeholders. Having the ability to make local decisions that benefit our customers and the community is a huge benefit. As a local community bank, we have a great opportunity to help business owners and their organizations accomplish their near-term and long-term objectives.”
Tom began his banking career as a Credit Analyst in the Commercial Credit Development Program with NBD/Chase Bank in Southeast Michigan. He later moved into Business Banking as a Relationship Manager serving the Detroit and Lansing markets. In 2006, he joined Citizen’s Bank (now Huntington Bank) in Jackson holding various roles in Commercial Banking and Special Assets. He also spent several years at Fifth Third Bank as Vice President, Relationship Manager in their Business Banking Group.
With his vast banking background, Tom recalls helping businesses work through challenges of the Great Recession from 2008 to 2010 as the most memorable and rewarding.
When asked why he chose to move to Chelsea State Bank, Tom said, “I wanted to work for an organization that empowers its colleagues to bring ideas to life and make decisions locally that benefit our customers and shareholders.”
A graduate of Michigan State University, Tom received his Bachelor of Arts in Finance from the Eli Broad School of Business. He currently serves as a member of the Finance Committee of Jackson Lumen Christi High School and trustee of the St. John Elementary School Endowment Trust. Tom recently served for 10 years as trustee of the Lumen Christi Endowment Trust. He is an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Jackson and mentor with Junior Achievement.
Tom and his wife Allison met at MSU and have been married for 19 years. They reside in Jackson with their daughter Brenna (entering 11th grade), sons Josh (9th grade) and Luke (8th grade) and 6-year-old Aussie Benny.
Outside the office, Tom says any outdoor activities will do, “especially spending time at a family cottage near Lake City, Mich., and our cabin near Evart, Mich. My wife and I spend much of our free time watching our three children compete in their various athletic activities.”
Tom also likes to participate in these athletic activities, as well. “When my two sons started playing youth hockey at 5 and 6 years old, it was fitting for me to start playing hockey at 37. It’s never too late to try something new and fun!”

- Favorite memory – When I was 12, I traveled to Europe for six weeks with my grandparents and participated in events related to the 45th anniversary of D-Day events in Normandy and surrounding areas. My grandfather was a medic in the Army and landed on Utah beach. As a bucket list trip, I would like to visit Western Europe again with our family.
